At Aspire Physiotherapy, we recognize the importance of effective pre and post-operative rehabilitation in maximizing surgical outcomes and facilitating a swift return to function. Our clinic offers specialized care for pre and post-op rehab patients, providing tailored treatment plans to optimize recovery and enhance overall well-being. Whether you’re preparing for surgery or recovering from a procedure, our experienced physiotherapists are here to support you every step of the way.
The Importance of Pre-operative Rehabilitation
A key benefit of a pre-operative rehab program is it not only strengthens muscles, but it can reduce the recovery time post operation. Additionally, a pre-operative rehabilitation program improves balance, reduces the risk of falls, encourages weight loss/reduces strain on joints, improves fitness, and gets a patient comfortable with the exercises he or she will be performing during the post-op rehab phase of recovery.
What to Expect from Post-operative Rehabilitation
After an operation, a patient has two main goals: 1) to avoid potential complications, and 2) to get back to pain-free living as quickly as possible. Physiotherapists help patients reach their goals by creating individualized rehab plans. These plans often include:
Education (including gait re-education, guidance for self-management techniques and recovery timeframes, etc).
Pain management
Modalities (ie: ultrasound, tens, etc).
Manual therapy (including joint mobilizations and soft tissue work).
Exercise (including range of motion, strength, balance, cardiovascular, posture, etc).
Personalized home exercise program.
Pre-operative rehabilitation is not always suggested but we ALWAYS recommend it to ensure a surgical procedure has the best possible outcome.
